INTRODUCING!!!! The Lander Dog-Wise Project
BEHAVIORAL SOLUTIONS
Dogs I worked with in the early years of my career.
I am so blessed for all they have taught me, and for what I have learned through continuing education units. Advancements in how we work with behavioral cases, as explained below, have made such differences in the speed and effectiveness of rehabilitation!
Behaviors that are more severe in nature such as anxiety, aggression, extreme fear of something, or general reactivity are often rooted in either trauma or an inability to have basic needs met. There are times when behaviors are the result of a genetic disease or an injury. I am trauma and attachment informed, and have over 15 years of working with dogs and other animals from a variety of backgrounds where these behaviors frequently manifest, including feral, semi-feral, or community (street dogs/hoarding) situations.
Aggression includes serious bite history, to humans or other animals, resulting in wounds that may or may not need medical treatment.
Anxiety includes separation anxiety behavior, or anything else that manifests in anxious and destructive behavior to self/others/property.
Fear is when a dog is unable to connect with or interact with other animals or humans or displays the freeze, flee or fight behavior when confronted by other animals, humans, or situations/particular items.
Reactivity includes barrier aggression (when a dog barks and lunges from behind a barrier such as a fence or window but may or may not display the same behavior without the barrier), leash reactivity (on leash reaction of aggressive displays or fearful actions when encountering other animals or humans), and any consistent behaviors that include predatory stalking, aggressive charging, lunging, barking, or snapping at humans or other animals, even without actual contact.
Behavioral solutions take time, and they take commitment, but they are possible. Because of the investment you are making into a life with your companion, I do offer payment plans on many of the packages I offer. The packages are discounted to honor your commitment, or if you are unsure of the outcome you can purchase individual sessions at the full rate.

Behavioral Solutions Package
This package is designed to resolve behavioral situations such as anxiety or aggression or to help with pets who have been living in "community" circumstances such as street dogs, hoarding situations, or other feral/semi-feral lifestyles. This package requires owner involvement and commitment. Payment options are offered to make this an affordable choice for pet owners facing tough situations. Your dog will learn to make choices, and you will learn how to encourage and support these choices. If each session were purchased individually, it would add up to at least $1800- over $2000. By purchasing the package you are committing to the investment in a better life for you and your pet, and receiving a discount for that. The payment plans include small processing fees for each payment while continuing to offer you a discount for committing to a better life for you and your pet!
The term of this package is for up to one year. The length of time we work together may be expedited, depending on how well the pet can handle the work, and how well the owner is utilizing the skills they will learn.
- Owners will learn how to set their pet up for success in a variety of situations, how to read body language of their own pet and others to prevent or manage interactions appropriately, skills to help their pet feel more comfortable in situations, management of the environment to increase confidence in their pet, and what to do if a negative interaction occurs.
- Pets will learn how to regulate emotions better, how to "ask" for help, coping strategies for reactive situations, alternate behaviors that are more acceptable in public situations, and better trust in their owner, which will naturally build confidence.
Meet twice a month for the first two months, then once a month after. Unlimited support via phone/text/email and up to 2 zoom sessions/mo after the second month.
Coaching and/or Day Training sessions are offered at a discount with this package. Coaching sessions help you refine your skills when working with your dog.
Day Training sessions are best for dogs who need extra training sessions to solidify behaviors, and you are paying me to do the extra training sessions with your dog. You do not need to be present but you are welcome!
Months 1-4:
Determine threshold, and reactivity level. Trainer will suggest management protocols to prevent further incidents or reactivity, and decompression protocol utilizing holistic methods such as acupressure, massage, dietary support and enrichment activities. We can discuss medications at this time, however, any medications must be prescribed through a veterinarian. If it appears medications would be helpful to achieve the goals I will refer you to a Behavioral Veterinarian who is willing to work with clients via Telehealth. We will develop a training plan that works for your situation and lifestyle.
Months 4-8:
Begin training, counterconditioning, introduction of alternate behaviors under threshold, assessing threshold changes, and timeframe per progression. Introduce techniques for recovery and protocol to avoid going over threshold. If working with a behavioral vet, discuss meds and report changes.
Months 8-12:
Decrease threshold, identify good choices and reward, practice in lower threshold situations, with more distractions as warranted.
Specific equipment may be suggested for this package. We will not use electronic collars or other devices intended to create aversive associations with the triggers. Such items suggested will be to increase autonomy for the animal, and help them naturally feel more secure in the otherwise traumatic situations. There are low cost options available so please discuss things with your trainer if you are concerned about cost.

Day Training Session
In lieu of board and train, this is for those who wish to have a specific behavior trained with their dog, but don't really have the time to put in for consistent training. I come to your home, and I will work with the dog introducing and proofing the behaviors until they can be generalized, meaning the dog will perform them for other people and in general circumstances. At this time we will schedule a regular session ($104) to teach YOU what your dog has learned, and how to keep the behavior in maintenance phase.
Each session with the dog is approximately 20-30 minutes. I will give you an appointment "window" of two hours, and arrive at your home during the two hour window. I can text 10 minutes ahead if you need me to.
Unless you are observing the training, each session includes a follow-up text or email and, if needed, a phone consultation.
Must have already had an Initial Consultation ($130). If you are a new client please fill out this Behavior History Form first before purchasing this service. You can pay for the Initial Consultation, in advance by clicking on the blue lettering, or you can pay with a check or cash at the appointment.
I require a minimum of 3 paid sessions ($156) in advance, and limit it to 12 advance paid sessions ($624) per behavior. If you have already had an Initial Consultation or are an existing client looking to proof more behaviors, please email me at [email protected] and you may prepay by adding 3-12 sessions to the cart, or with cash or check for the desired number of sessions at our first appointment.
Please keep in mind the fee for this service is EACH time I come to your home. Typically the cost is between $300- $500 per behavior.

Rattlesnake Safety and Avoidance Private Package
Most snake aversion courses involve the use of live snakes and shock collars to "teach" the dog that snakes are painful. This is terribly unnecessary, and traumatic for both your dog and the snake. We will not be teaching your dog to avoid a snake because it hurts, we will be teaching your dog that seeing, hearing, or smelling a snake means returning to your side is very rewarding. Dogs are capable of understanding that the collar means pain (shock) or unpleasant stimuli (vibration or warning beep) occur in the presence of certain things. They are equally capable of understanding that the absence of the collar means an absence of the pain or stimuli. It is not reasonable to expect your dog to wear that collar all of the time, nor is it reasonable to expect that a snake will only be in certain places at certain times. Snakes are individuals, and they can work their way into spaces that can be unexpected! Like your garage, or basement, or literally anywhere outdoors.
This training can also be applied to additional avoidances, such as traps! There is an option below to add trap/snare aversion to this package. If you want the trap/snare only, just choose the basic rattlesnake package and on your behavior history form, indicate that you want the trap/snare avoidance.
The private course for rattlesnake aversion includes:
- discussion of the skills you as the owner need for keeping your dog safe in snake country
- introduction and demonstration of training the behaviors needed for your dog to recall immediately to you if she sees, hears, or smells a snake.
- The first session can be virtual, so I can learn more about your relationship with your dog, and we can go over all things snake and dog! If you would prefer a face to face meeting, there will only be an additional charge if you live outside of the Lander immediate area.
- After that, we will meet one or two times to begin introducing the "triggers" and setting the dog up for successful reaction of returning to you, and if you want an added alert behavior can be introduced later.
- After your dog is solid on these behaviors, I bring fake snakes, snake scent, and a speaker to hide with rattlesnake sounds to help you link to the behaviors as cues, and demonstrate further training.
- The private course can be enhanced by attending planned practice sessions offered throughout the spring and summer, beginning just prior to snake emergence, for an additional fee per practice. The practices use my props and set you up for real life scenario encounters to test your training!
The online course for snake aversion helps you learn the skills to teach your dog to recall to you at the sight, scent or sound of a snake. Different parts of the country have different snakes that can be dangerous to dogs. While this course is tailored to rattlesnakes, it can be used to teach dogs to recall away from other dangerous snakes as well. My online course is different from many in that I will send you some snake scent to work with, and we will do zoom sessions to troubleshoot and ensure that the desired behaviors are being trained correctly. Most online trainings are simply a DVD or webinar format only.
For either private or online option you will receive a lesson plan in .pdf format to follow, lesson plans for each behavior used in the overall training, as well as other behaviors to alert if desired, plus a list of the props and skills that you need to keep your dog safer through training, prevention and awareness. You also get one on one coaching through Zoom as needed for 3 months, and lifetime (your dog's) of support through phone/text/email as needed.
THIS COURSE IS BEST TO START IN FALL OR WINTER, AS MANY OF THE BEHAVIORS YOU WANT FOR YOUR DOG WILL NEED TO BE TRAINED INSIDE TO BEGIN! By spring, with regular practice you and your dog will have the skills to be set up for success.
DOGS MUST HAVE A GOOD RECALL, and GOOD LEASH MANNERS.
- If your dog's recall is not good, meaning your dog often ignores you on the recall, or plays the dodge game upon returning, or begins running around when you call then we MUST do the recall work first. If you choose the recall add- on with your Rattlesnake Package, you will receive a discount!
- If your dog is not good on leash manners (meaning always lunging at the end of the leash to get to things) it is helpful to have good leash manners with this, so there is an option to choose one of the two leash manners packages at a discount too.
IF YOUR DOG NEEDS WORK ON BOTH RECALL AND LEASH MANNERS- please consider the Trailblazers Private Package - All inclusive adult behavior package geared towards outdoor adventure. This package includes both as well as the snake training and trap training plus more!
To register, please fill out the Behavior Intake Form, unless you have already done so.

Leash skills are the foundation of all behavioral solutions. The leash is a direct line to your dog, but what most people fail to realize is that it telegraphs so much information! Your dog is aware of your emotions and will react accordingly just by how you are holding your leash and how much tension you are applying. When you are skillfully versed in handling a leash, your dog feels comfortable and confident on the other end of the leash, and problems simply do not exist!

Fear/Force Free Livestock and Wildlife Predation Avoidance - Private Package
Does your dog like to chase squirrels, bunnies, chickens or larger game like deer/elk/horses or livestock? Does your pup bolt away, jerking the leash from your hand and refusing to recall until the prey is miles away? If having your arm yanked out of the socket by a surprise deer bounce-by or a sudden squirrel chase around the tree is a regular occurrence, you NEED this package!
Predation is a natural instinct for dogs, and yet, for centuries we have been able to isolate pieces of predatory behaviors in specific breeds and types to assist us in our daily life activities such as herding, hunting, tracking, and protection work. This package is personalized to your dog's particular predatory style, and will help put control of your dog's natural behavior in your hands.
This package does not use shock or e-collars to train and is force and fear free. We meet weekly for up to 6 weeks.
Skills learned:
- Reading body language
- preventive measures
- alternative behaviors to replace normal predation behaviors
- cues to distract your dog in emergency situations
Required prerequisites for this class:
- One initial behavior consultation (to determine if other behaviors are necessary to learn first) OR
- A puppy, adolescent or adult package, or private sessions OR
- Leash Life Skills and Rocket Recall
An online only version of this package is available, and includes detailed lesson plans for needed behaviors as well as zoom meetings to troubleshoot or proof behaviors.
New online clients please fill out the Behavioral Intake Form. Existing clients please reach out via phone or email.

Private Coaching
This option is for people who are in need of some coaching to attain or improve a specific goal in training.
- Perfect for competitors of most dog sports, as well as to fine tune social behaviors.

- Do you compete in a sport like agility, nose work, or herding? I can help you fine tune for increased performance with your dog!
Coaching is for problem solving too! Whether you are seeking to fine tune or simply improve a little, this experience will absolutely deepen your relationship!

You will learn how to utilize skills your dog already has when engaging in the sport or activity you choose. You will receive tailored content to help you achieve whatever goals you may have, learn more about the activity, and about the organizations that oversee the competitions of these activities.
