A collaborative effort between the Lander Pet Connection and Christi Chapman, Professional Dog Trainer, funded by a grant from the LOR Foundation.
This project has been created to raise awareness of how to protect yourself and your pets from off-leash dogs that are supervised or unsupervised, safely managing dog/dog or dog/human interactions, and bite prevention both in the home and in public. Since coming to Lander as a certified and professional dog trainer, off leash dogs have been a complaint I hear over and over. These dogs may or may not be supervised. There have been cases of serious dog attacks in public in Lander and the surrounding areas, resulting in severe injuries and even deaths of humans, and their pets. More are reported in private homes. I began earnestly researching this topic in 2020, and have completed several continuing educational credits in techniques to alleviate the negative aspects of these interactions, with the intent of becoming well versed in various tactics to help as many people as possible. Lander is home to so many dog loving people, who spend a lot of time out and about, including their dogs in as much of their lives as possible! This is so important for dogs, and we want to honor this in a way that our citizens will feel safer and better equipped to handle these situations.
